How to shoot a handgun fast and accurately?
you spend hours watching YouTube videos of super-fast shooters. You follow them on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, etc because you want to shoot in competitions as fast as them. The question is, “Can you shoot fast and accurately.”
These tips will help you begin to improve your game in the shooting sport:
Apply the fundamentals of shooting. Just a bit faster.
How do you expect to shoot fast and accurately if you can’t shoot accurately slowly? I mean, the shot group in your target will get wider as you increase the speed between shots and the distance from the target. The main difference between shooting slow and fast is that you are applying the fundamentals of shooting faster with a twist.
Body stance
Your body position depends on how fast you are shooting. Lean forward even more than usual when shooting fast. Spreading out your legs while keeping one back will help you maintain your balance.
Grip
Shooting fast in competitions also requires a firm grip that remains the same while you are engaging an array of targets. Pay attention to your articulations, and make sure they are locked.
Sight picture
Different than target practice, competitive shooting does not require a perfect sight picture. That said, what is acceptable at 5 yards, is different than what is acceptable at 25 yards. That means that at 5 yards, you can be more forgiven and shoot faster; nevertheless, never take for granted any target.
Trigger press
Pressing the trigger fast and aggressively will make you shoot quickly, but it won’t guarantee that you will hit the target. Practice, practice, practice, until you can get used to pressing the trigger fast without disturbing your sight picture.
Shooting fast is something that many people who are starting in the shooting sport strive for. But, keep in mind that shooting fast is also a combination of several variables such as gun customizations, pistol weight, the speed of the ammo, to mention a few, but that is a subject for a whole new video.
In the meantime, remember this: Shoot as fast as you recover your sight picture!
Be safe, be responsible, and I hope I get to see you next time at the range.
