This week, I will be traveling to the non-gun-friendly state of California to visit family and enjoy some quality time together as we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Given this situation, I plan to work on my dry-firing technique without my gun and equipment.<br><br>Specifically, I will focus on visualization techniques. Even if you are at home and can access your gun and equipment, visualization is a powerful training tool often underutilized and even unknown to many. Ironically, we always practice visualization—every time we recall something from the past or imagine what might happen in the future.</p></div>



<p class="">Here are some benefits of using visualization as an additional training tool:</p>



<ol class="wp-block-list">
<li class="">You can imagine a dry fire session or competition and visualize performing it flawlessly.</li>



<li class="">You can visualize shooting a stage where you made a mistake or encountered something unexpected, allowing you to address those issues and train your mind to react under pressure.</li>



<li class="">It helps reinforce the techniques you are practicing.</li>
</ol>

The difference is that before you begin the drill, you will imagine performing every movement the way you want. Repeat at the beginning of the drill.<br><br>Additionally, take 10 to 15 minutes before bed to do more visualizations about the drills you practiced that day. In my case, I will do about twenty to thirty minutes (unless I fall sleep) to work on my visualization.</td></tr></tbody></table></figure>

<p class="">Este plan de entrenamiento puede resultar familiar porque hace unos dos años comencé un programa de seis semanas para apoyar mi recuperación física y mental tras la cirugía de reconstrucción del ligamento cruzado anterior (LCA). La principal diferencia ahora es que esos entrenamientos eran privados, yo loco los compartí con quienes se suscribieron a mis boletines. Hoy, he decidido hacerlo público, con el objetivo de ayudar a más personas que los cientos que se inscribieron hace dos años.</p>



<p class=""><strong>¿Es este plan de entrenamiento adecuado para ti?</strong></p>



<p class="">Quizás si… quizás no.</p>



<p class="">Primero, déjame aclarar: este es MI plan de entrenamiento y lo comparto contigo. Está diseñado específicamente para tiro competitivo, pero la mayoría de los principios, si no todos, se aplican a diversas actividades prácticas de tiro, como la práctica de tiro al blanco y la defensa personal.</p>



<p class="">Mi plan de entrenamiento está diseñado para ayudar a personas de cualquier nivel —ya sean principiantes, intermedios o avanzados— que sientan que les falta una rutina estructurada para mejorar sus habilidades de tiro. Aunque no soy una novata en este deporte, he estado ocupada completando mi Maestría en Psicología del Deporte y el Rendimiento. Además, he estado trabajando para obtener mi certificación como Consultora de Rendimiento Mental (CMPC) durante los últimos meses. Como resultado, siento que he perdido mi rutina y probablemente muchas habilidades que son perecederas. Por lo tanto, quiero perfeccionar mis habilidades puliendo meticulosamente mi técnica.</p>



<p class="">¿Qué deberías hacer durante estos próximos días?</p>

<li class="">Define tus objetivos.</li>



<li class="">Determina cuándo y dónde dispararás en seco durante al menos 15 minutos al día.</li>



<li class="">Reúne el equipo adecuado, como fundas, portacargadores, dianas y cronómetros. Los enlaces te llevan a Primary Arms, donde puedes comprar todo lo necesario para el entrenamiento. Por cierto, yo uso el cronómetro del Club PACT.</li>

<li class="">NO se enfoca en tus necesidades individuales de tiro.</li>

<p class=""><strong>Lo que este entrenamiento SÍ HACE:</strong></p>

<li class="">Se centra en las habilidades de tiro de la USPSA, mi deporte principal, pero los ejercicios también son beneficiosos para otras aplicaciones, como la defensa personal y el tiro al blanco.</li>



<li class="">El objetivo principal es establecer una rutina diaria de tiro en seco.</li>



<li class="">Proporciona entrenamiento con fuego real.</li>



<li class="">Este enfoque enfatiza los detalles de la técnica de tiro y ayuda a mejorar y reforzar las habilidades fundamentales necesarias para convertirte en un mejor tirador.</li>

<p class="">Yo llamo al intervalo de tiempo de disparo en seco el G341 (la letra G es por mi nombre, tres series de ejercicios de 4 minutos y un minuto de descanso), 3x(4+1) —¡Ay! Me encantan las matemáticas, jajaja. Por lo tanto, quince minutos es el mínimo entrenamiento diario que harás de tiro en seco. Lo ideal es usar este método en incrementos de quince minutos.</p>



<p class="">Por ejemplo, yo me voy a comprometer a hacer disparo en seco durante 30 minutos diarios. Sin embargo, ajustaré mi sesión de disparo en seco según mi horario; quizás unos días solo pueda hacer disparo en seco quince minutos, mientras que otros días podría dedicar 45 minutos o más. ¿Tiene sentido?</p>



<p class="">Hay dos razones por las que te beneficiarás de usar este método. Primero, te mantendrá concentrado durante cuatro minutos seguidos. Puede que parezca poco, pero beneficiará significativamente tu entrenamiento, ya que evitarás distracciones a las que puedes prestar atención durante tu minuto de descanso. Segundo, el G341 facilita adaptar los ejercicios de disparo en seco a tu horario.</p>



<p class="">Ahora que sabes que necesitas al menos quince minutos, me gustaría que pensaras en qué días y horas del día practicarás. De hecho, empieza a hacerlo hoy mismo hasta que publique las próximas sesiones de entrenamiento semanales.</p>

<p class="">This training plan may seem familiar because about two years ago, I started a six-week program to support my mental and physical recovery after ACL reconstruction surgery. The main difference now is that I kept that journey private, sharing it only with those who subscribed to my newsletters. Today, I&#8217;ve decided to make it public, aiming to help more people than the hundreds who signed up two years ago.</p>

<p class="">First, let me clarify: this is MY training plan, and I am sharing it with you. It is specifically tailored for competitive shooting, but most, if not all, of the principles apply to various practical shooting activities such as target practice and self-defense.</p>



<p class="">My training plan is designed to assist individuals at any skill level—whether they are beginners, intermediate, or advanced shooters—who feel they lack a structured routine to improve their shooting skills. Although I am not a new shooter, I have been busy completing my Master’s in Sport and Performance Psychology. Additionally, I have been working toward my certification as a Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) over the past few months. As a result, I feel I have lost my routine and likely many perishable skills. Thus, I want to refine my skills by meticulously polishing my technique.</p>



<p class=""><strong>What should you do during these upcoming days?</strong></p>



<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li class="">Define what your goals are.</li>



<li class="">Determine when and where you will dry-fire for at least 15 minutes daily.</li>



<li class="">Gather the proper equipment, such as holsters, mag pouches, targets, and timers. The links take you to Primary Arms, where you can purchase everything you need for the training. BTW, I use the <a href="https://www.primaryarms.com/PACCT3" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">PACT Club timer</a>.</li>

<p class=""><strong>What this training DOES NOT do:</strong></p>

<li class="">It does NOT focus on your individual shooting needs.</li>
</ul>



<p class=""><strong>What this training DOES:</strong></p>

<li class="">The focus is on USPSA shooting skills, which is my primary sport, but the drills are also beneficial for other applications, such as self-defense and target shooting.</li>



<li class="">The main objective is to establish a daily dry-firing routine.</li>



<li class="">It does provide live-fire training.</li>



<li class="">This approach emphasizes shooting technique details and helps improve and reinforce the foundational skills necessary to become a better shooter.</li>

<p class="">I call a dry firing time interval the G341 (Gabby’s three series of 4-minute drills and one-minute rest), 3x(4+1)—Oh! I love math, LOL. Thus, fifteen minutes is the minimum you will dry fire daily. Ideally, use this method in increments of fifteen minutes.</p>



<p class="">For instance, I am committing to dry fire for 30 minutes daily. However, I will adjust my dry fire session according to my schedule; I might only be able to dry fire for fifteen minutes some days, while I might be able to dedicate 45 minutes or more on other days. Does that make sense?</p>



<p class="">There are two reasons why you will benefit from using this method. First, it will keep you focused for four minutes at a time. It might seem like not much, but it will significantly benefit your training as you’ll avoid distractions you can attend to during your one-minute rest. Second, the G341 makes adjusting the dry firing drills to your schedule easy.</p>



<p class="">Now that you know you need at least fifteen minutes, I would like you to think about which days and times of the day you will practice. In fact, begin doing so today until I release the upcoming weekly training sessions.</p>

<p class="">Hace unos seis años competí en un torneo de tiro práctico donde uno de los recorridos tenía objetivos agrupados a la derecha e izquierda de la cancha. Estaban escondidos detrás de paredes de madera contrachapada. El medio de la cancha estaba completamente abierto, donde había dos blancos de cartón altos separados por cuatro siluetas metálicas a unas veinte o veinticinco yardas.</p>



<p class="">Me preocupaba esta etapa porque los objetivos ocultos aparecían o desaparecían dependiendo de si me movía mucho o muy poco. Mis movimientos tenían que ser precisos.</p>



<p class="">Visualicé cada posición y cada objetivo oculto. Cada movimiento que hice en mi mente fue calculado, guiándome al centro del escenario. En ese momento, me recordé a mí misma que debía dispararle a las siluetas que estaban lejos. Continué mi ejercicio mental, visualizando en detalle las posiciones y objetivos restantes al otro lado de la cancha.</p>



<p class="">Me sentí orgullosa de mi visualización y preparación, ya que mi cuerpo y mi mente estaban sincronizados mientras corría la etapa. No hubo preocupaciones, vacilaciones ni dudas. Me sentí excelente, pero mi sonrisa se desvaneció cuando muchos en el squad me miraron con asombro, como diciendo &#8220;¿Qué hiciste?&#8221;</p>



<p class="">Me di vuelta y vi mi terrible error.</p>



<p class="">Disparé a todos los objetivos ocultos con precisión sin fallar ninguno. Sin embargo, solo disparé a los dos objetivos de cartón en el medio de la cancha, ignorando completamente los cuatro poppers frente a mí. ¿Cómo fue eso posible?<br></p>



<p class="">Esto es lo que pasó.</p>



<p class="">Di por sentado los objetivos lejanos durante mi visualización porque se veían fáciles. Entonces, cuando llegó el momento de disparar, mis manos cubrieron esos objetivos pequeños mientras disparaba a los altos, manteniendo las siluetas metálicas fuera de la vista. Como no los incorporé en mi visualización, mi cuerpo y mi mente se basaron únicamente en lo que podía ver.</p>



<p class="">Las técnicas de visualización son herramientas invaluables. Pero esta experiencia me enseñó que no todas las visualizaciones son beneficiosas o prácticas. Es posible que te ayuden en un área, pero no llegan a ser el factor decisivo para mejorar o ganar. El verdadero poder de la visualización reside en tu enfoque y en cómo aplicas eficazmente esta herramienta mental.</p>

<li class="">Por último, puedes implementar uno o dos desafíos o problemas en tu visualización y tener un plan sobre cómo resolver el problema. Al hacer esto, te prepararás ya sea que tengas una ejecución limpia o algunos problemas durante todo el proceso.</li>

<p class="">A stage at a major match I competed at about six years ago had clustered targets on the left and right side of the stage hidden behind plywood walls. The middle of the stage was wide open with two tall paper targets separated by four poppers back by the berm.<br><br>I was concerned about this stage because the hidden targets would appear or disappear depending on whether I moved too much or too little.<br>I visualized each position and each hidden target. Every movement I made in my mind was calculated, guiding me to the center of the stage. At that point, I reminded myself to engage the far targets and to continue with my planned approach toward the right side of the stage. Once again, I visualize the remaining positions and targets in detail.<br><br>I was proud of my visualization and preparation, as my body and mind were synchronized and in the zone while running the stage. There were no worries, no hesitation, and no doubts. I unloaded my gun, showed the RO it was cleared, and holstered it. <br><br>I felt good, but my smile faded when many in my squad looked at me like saying, “What did you do?” I turned around and saw my catastrophic error.<br><br>I shot all the hidden targets accurately without missing a single one. However, I only shot at the two far-paper targets and neglected to engage any of the four poppers in front of me. How was that even possible? Here is what happened. I took the far targets for granted during my visualization. So, when it was time to shoot, my hands covered those small targets as I engaged the tall ones, keeping the poppers out of sight. Because I did not incorporate the steel targets in my visualization, I relied only on what I saw.<br><br>Visualization techniques are invaluable tools. But, this experience taught me that not all visualizations are beneficial or practical. They may propel you forward in one area but fall short of being the decisive factor for improvement. The true power lies in your approach and how you effectively apply this mental tool.<br>Here are some tips</p>



<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li class="">Give every essential element of your performance the respect and dedication it deserves.</li>



<li class="">Use the fundamental aspects of your performance as a motivational springboard to enhance your imagery practice.</li>



<li class="">Visualize the more challenging elements of your performance with the confidence of a champion, as if nothing in the world could stop you from achieving greatness. This is the power of visualization.</li>



<li class="">Lastly, consider incorporating one or two challenges or obstacles into your visualization and develop a plan to overcome these problems. Doing this will prepare you whenever you face difficulties along the way.</li>

<p class="">Como en muchos otros deportes de tiro, la disciplina mental es fundamental para el tiro práctico. Debes mantener la concentración, la compostura y ejecutar cada movimiento con precisión.  Estas son tres estrategias mentales que te ayudarán a mejorar tu concentración y tu rendimiento en el día de la competencia.</p>



<p class=""><strong>Mantén la mente en el presente</strong></p>



<p class="">Evita revivir errores pasados o preocuparte por etapas venideras. Los tiros fallidos o un cambio de cargador fallido deben quedar en el pasado. Aprende de tus errores, pero mantén la concentración en el momento presente y en las acciones que estás a punto de realizar.</p>



<p class="">En lugar de preocuparte por la actuación general del escenario, piensa en las posiciones, los movimientos y las transiciones durante el escenario actual. Los competidores exitosos desarrollan su plan dividiendo el plan en acciones specíficas en lugar de abrumarse con el panorama completo. Mantendrás la claridad mental, evitarás estrés innecesario y mejorarás la coherencia si mantienes tu mente en el aquí y el ahora.</p>



<p class=""><strong>Visualiza el éxito</strong></p>



<p class="">Las imágenes mentales son una herramienta poderosa para reforzar los resultados positivos y aumentar la confianza. Antes de tu turno para dispara la etapa, visualízate hacieindo el recorrido con precisión, velocidad y eficiencia. Este ensayo mental previo a la actuación le ayuda a tu cerebro crear un plan mental para el éxito.</p>



<p class="">Utiliza tus sentidos para visualizar sentir tus manos agarrando firmemente la pistola mientras presiona el gatillo a la perfección para realizar un buen disparo. Imagínate disparar y escuchar caer cada objetivo metálico que apuntes. La visualización es una herramienta poderosa pero poco utilizada durante las competiciones. Por lo tanto, practícalo continuamente para ayudar a tu cerebro a acostumbrarse a ejecutar recorridos impecables, lo que te llevará a un rendimiento más seguro y automático en las condiciones de competencia.</p>



<p class=""><strong>Deja de lado el resultado: centrate en el proceso</strong></p>



<p class="">En lugar de centrarse en elementos impulsados ​​por los resultados, como los factores de impacto y la ubicación general, concéntrese en los componentes de ejecución de su plan y el proceso. Cambia tu forma de pensar de &#8220;Necesito ganar&#8221; a &#8220;Ejecutaré mi plan con un movimiento a la vez&#8221;. Dale a cada elemento de tu plan toda su atención y tu mejor esfuerzo. Confía en que, al concentrate en el proceso de ejecución, los resultados se producirán de forma natural.</p>



<p class="">Este enfoque ayuda con la recuperación de errores. Si algo sale mal (un mal disparo, un cambio de cargador lento o una transición inadecuada), reconócelo brevemente pero vuelve a concentrarte inmediatamente en ejecutar el siguiente movimiento de la mejor manera posible. Los mejores tiradores no dejan que los errores permanezcan en sus mentes; se recuperan y avanzan con confianza.</p>



<p class="">Al entrenar tu mente para permanecer presente, visualizar el éxito y concentrarte en la ejecución en lugar de en los resultados, desarrollarás un juego mental sólido como una roca que puede resistir las presiones de la competencia.</p>
